History and Forms of Lyric (HFL) Lecture Series
In Autumn 2004, the Program in Poetry and Poetics began a series of public lectures on the History and Forms of Lyric. The lectures are presented by both Chicago faculty and visitors from outside the University. The lectures are generally followed by an extended discussion session over a casual buffet dinner.
Poetry and Poetics Workshop
This workshop is a collaboration for all those studying poetry at the University—graduate students, scholars, and poets. The workshop is primarily interested in investigating questions of poetics from a variety of different disciplinary perspectives, and in poetry from a range of time periods and languages. The workshop encourages attendance from students who work in all historical periods and in languages other than English, as well as those who are involved in comparative projects. Graduate students from all fields who are interested in poetics are encouraged to present works in progress.
Poem Present Reading and Lecture Series
This popular series brings distinguished contemporary poets to the University to read from their work as well as to present talks on poetry-related topics of their choice. Readings are followed by receptions, and lectures are followed by discussion sessions. The Poem Present website (poempresent.uchicago.edu) features a complete schedule of the upcoming season as well as an archive of sound and video recordings from current and previous seasons.
Pearl Andelson Sherry Memorial Poetry Series
Established in 1997 through a gift from the Sherry Family, The Pearl Andelson Sherry Memorial Fund annually brings a major contemporary poet to the University of Chicago to work with students and to present the Pearl Andelson Sherry Memorial Poetry Reading and Lecture.
